If It’s Good est une plateforme de recherche fondée sur une méthode féministe, collaborative et inclusive. Née en 2020, l’association agit sur deux axes : programmation artistique et conception d’outils numériques. 

Pratiques curatoriales et féminismes :

Nous nous intéressons aux pratiques curatoriales alternatives et collectives pensées à partir des féminismes. Cette ouverture d’espaces-temps singuliers, à la limite du privé et du public, donne naissance à des formats hybrides dont la fonction première est de produire et transmettre des pratiques et des savoirs émancipateurs dans une atmosphère d’exploration collective. L’association If It’s Good est elle-même née d’un salon mensuel organisé par Théodora Domenech dans des espaces privés depuis 2017. Ce salon est conçu comme un laboratoire informel d’échange et de découverte d’artistes et écrivain·e·s femmes, trans et non binaires.  

Assistant Curatorial Numérique :

Nous réalisons une base de données d’artistes femmes* internationales. Cet outil est pensé comme un assistant curatorial : son but est d’aider les professionnel·le·s de l’art (commissaires, critiques, enseignant·e·s) à trouver des références d’artistes correspondant à leurs sujets de recherche. Les artistes présentes sur la base de données sont choisies en raison de leur participation à des expositions internationales ciblées. Nous sélectionnons les expositions et biennales internationales les plus engagées en faveur de l’inclusivité et de la prospection. Recherche soutenue par le Ministère de la culture (DGCA).

Recherche & Direction: Théodora Domenech

Théodora Domenech est docteure en philosophie spécialisée en phénoménologie des sentiments. Elle organise, depuis trois ans, un salon de présentation d’artistes et écrivaines femmes*. Croisant philosophie et études culturelles, ses recherches portent sur les critères de jugement des oeuvres d’art et les discriminations dans l’art contemporain ainsi que sur les effets des technologies numériques sur la vie affective.

Recherche & Programmation: Angela Blanc

Angela Blanc est curatrice indépendante et historienne de l’art. Ses recherches récentes questionnent l’influence des politiques et théories féministes sur les pratiques curatoriales, à partir des notions d’intimité, de collaboration et de transmission. En 2020, elle a co-dirigé une programmation en ligne, Sets and Scenarios, en partenariat avec Nottingham Contemporary, portant sur nos relations affectives aux images.

Recherche & Production : Géraldine Miquelot

Géraldine Miquelot est chercheuse et commissaire d’exposition indépendante. Après une thèse sur les pratiques de médiation dans les institutions d’art contemporain, elle poursuit ses réflexions sur le travail et les conditions de collaboration. Donnant la priorité à la transmission et à la vulgarisation, elle s’attache notamment à rendre lisibles les mécanismes de domination patriarcale et coloniale en jeu dans le monde de l’art.

If It’s Good

If It’s Good, founded in 2020, is a research platform that uses feminist, collaborative and inclusive methods. As an organisation, we engage in two main activities: we curate artistic events and design digital tools.

Feminist curatorial practices:

This research focuses on alternative and collective curatorial practices derived from feminist thinking. Our hybrid formats are situated at the intersection of the public and the private spheres. We aim to use these to create new practices and transmit emancipatory knowledge through collective explorations. The association If It’s Good was born of a monthly salon that has been held privately since 2017 by Theodora Domenech. This salon was conceived of as an informal laboratory of exchange and discovery of female-identified, trans and non-binary artists and writers.

Digital Curatorial Assistant:

We are creating a database of international women* artists. This tool is conceived of as a curatorial assistant: its purpose is to help art professionals (curators, critics, teachers) to find references to artists, whose profile corresponds to the subject of the curators’ research. The artists who feature in our database are selected based on their participation in the most important international exhibitions and biennales in favor of inclusivity and prospection. This research is supported by the Ministère de la culture (DGCA). 

Our Team

Research & Direction: Théodora Domenech

Théodora Domenech is a Doctor of Philosophy with a specialisation in the phenomenology of feelings. For the past three years, she has organised a monthly salon for women artists and writers. Situated at the intersection of philosophy and cultural studies, her research focuses on the criteria of judgement and discrimination in the contemporary art world, as well as the effects of new technologies on emotions. 

Research & Programming: Angela Blanc

Angela Blanc is an independent curator and art historian. Her most recent research questions the influence of feminist theories on artistic and curatorial practices, concentrated on an exploration of intimacy, collaboration, and transmission. In 2020, in partnership with Nottingham Contemporary, she co-curated Sets and Scenarios, an online programme featuring film, text and performance, that questions our heightened proximity to moving images.

Research & Production: Géraldine Miquelot

Géraldine Miquelot is a researcher and independent curator. After a thesis on cultural mediation practices in contemporary art institutions, she began to conduct her research on labour and the conditions of collaboration. With a concentration on processes of transmission and popularization, she seeks to highlight patriarchal and colonial domination at work in the art world.
